¡Hola!
I'm Isabel and I come from Oaxaca, Mexico. I love analog photography and visual arts.
I finished my master's degree in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) and I'm currently working on my thesis. Being a second language learner myself, I understand the challenges but also the remarkable feelings that come with noticing your own progress.
Me as a Teacher
I've taught both Spanish and English in Mexico (mostly to teenagers/young adults), always trying make my students feel comfortable so that they speak from day one. Creating an engaging lesson based on real material is key too, I believe this helps with motivation for learning, enjoyment of the class and retention.
My lessons & teaching style
Let's talk about your purposes, expectations, and needs beforehand and communicate throughout the process. I love the idea of an amusing learning experience, including lots of interesting material, activities, and why not, games, and a good laugh from time to time!
My teaching style is based on:
✔ The Immersion style: there will be exposure to Spanish (as much as possible) according to your level, using slow, clear and comprehensible language; gesticulation and visual aids are also included.
✔ Whole language approach: designed to help you learn in a natural way with authentic situations and materials. You'll construct your knowledge by doing (rather than receiving it).
Isabel is an awesome teacher and provides the direction and structure I need to my language learning. Before meeting her I was always trying to find short videos in Spanish to practice my listening comprehension. I’d ask my Spanish speaking friends and never had much luck. So I found it amazing that her homework is providing me with Spanish videos that we talk about the next lesson :) As well, she provides a pdf of vocab words associated with the video to help. This is great because sometimes I become focused on translating every word but with the vocab sheet it helps let me know what words are important to focus on and look for in the video.

Classes with Isabel are always interactive and well-organised. She always offers a range of interesting materials before every lesson. I would definitely recommend choosing her as a tutor, especially for those who need to develop their speaking and listening skills.

Isabel is helping me so much! I work in a very technical field (medicine) and she is coming up with some amazing creative ways for me to learn! I feel like my understanding of medical Spanish is stronger than it ever has been. I’m having so much fun learning! Highly recommend
